Rear Garden · Teddington
Holmesdale Road
Teddington
A Teddington garden transformed from a blank canvas after building works into a tranquil haven of colour, texture and movement.
The Brief
A blank canvas after major works.
The garden needed a complete redesign after extensive building works. The material palette combined gabions, Cotswold Gabion stone, London Mixture clay pavers and large-format porcelain to move from a formal terrace to softer lawn and planting.
Design Thinking
Hand drawn before it is built.
Every project begins by hand, with drawings that explore how the garden should move, settle and feel before anything is built. The plan considers the house, the light, the views from inside and the quiet details that make a space feel personal rather than standard.
These early sketches shape the planting, materials, levels and moments of pause. They give the team a clear design language to build from, so the finished garden feels considered from the first line on paper to the final planting.
The Project
Texture, water and movement.
A bespoke water feature using gabions and custom-made spouts brings movement and sound to the garden, while also creating a subtle division between the terraces.
Design Response
Simple planting with strong impact.
Prunus lusitanica lollipops, Hydrangea arborescens Annabelle, Sesleria autumnalis and multi-stem olive trees give the garden structure and a strong destination at the end.
