A secluded urban courtyard in South West London designed around a precise, minimal material palette and strong detailing.

A very specific brief for precision and calm.

The client had seen Landscape Artisan work locally and wanted that same skill and precision for a contemporary but natural courtyard garden.

Hand drawn before it is built.

Every project begins by hand, with drawings that explore how the garden should move, settle and feel before anything is built. The plan considers the house, the light, the views from inside and the quiet details that make a space feel personal rather than standard.

These early sketches shape the planting, materials, levels and moments of pause. They give the team a clear design language to build from, so the finished garden feels considered from the first line on paper to the final planting.

Limestone setts with character.

Sawn and tumbled limestone setts from Foras Stone were used to pave and frame the area, giving the courtyard delicate shell and mineral detail.

Functional drainage turned into a feature.

Drainage was key, so cast iron channel grates from Lateral Design Studio were used as a decorative detail rather than a compromise.
